Dr Yu-Yao Teoh
BDSc (Hons.) MPhil DClinDent (Endo)
Dr Yu-Yao Teoh, or simply "Yao" to his patients, obtained his dental qualification with honours from the University of Queensland in 2014, where he was awarded the Vardiman Dental Study Association Prize for achieving the highest clinical performance in his cohort.
After graduation, Yao entered the world of dental research at the University of Queensland and obtained his Master of Philosophy in endodontic biomaterials. His work on novel materials to improve the outcomes of root canal treatment sparked his interest in endodontics, and he realised that his passion lies in treating patients. At this point, his family and friends were unsure if he was pursuing a career in dentistry or studying! Ultimately, for a third time at the University of Queensland, Yao completed his specialist training (Doctor of Clinical Dentistry) in Endodontics.
Yao has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, primarily in the field of endodontics. He is actively involved in the teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate dental students, and is constantly supervising multiple research projects. His commitment to the profession has also taken him onto the lecture circuit locally and internationally, and he was recognised as the ADA/PFA National Emerging Young Lecturer in 2017.
Yao is passionate about saving teeth, providing sound treatment options and will do his best to help patients retain their natural teeth. He believes in an evidence-based approach for treatments and prides himself on providing quality care based on the latest evidence and technology.
